Contentment, fear and faith

CONTENTMENT

In the midst of crisis, the one thing you will look forward to is the simple rhythms of life. The desire for normalcy to return. Once you’re out of crisis, you deeply appreciate the moments of a mundane life.

So while you are in it, savour the everyday, be in the moment with your loved ones.

“Now godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content.” I Timothy 6:6‭-‬8

FEAR & FAITH

“Fear and panic can do more harm than the coronavirus”, says PM Lee.

“People’s fear factor kicks in first before logic”, says Dr. Syra Madad in Netflix’s Pandemic film.

I was reminded recently that fear worsen labour pains. So fear is our enemy. It’s irrational. The more we fear, the more we make our own lives difficult/painful.

Christians believe in a God who is in control of all things and is bigger than the viruses. Yet they are still susceptible to fear when faith is misplaced. So how about those who don’t believe nor are devout to any gods?

During the TB isolation period, I was questioning God, but I also found comfort in His presence and almighty authority. Even though things are out of my control, I know God is in control. I don’t know how I would have survived without God. I did wonder how non-Christians can go through such a dark period without God?

If no one is bigger than them to help them, and they feel out of control, they’re indeed out of control. It only seems natural for fear and panic to sets in if faith is in our own helpless selves.

These days, my mind and heart are always on constant battle — between faith (in God) and fear. I have to keep pushing back the darkness and live in the light. I have to keep renewing my mind to rest in His goodness. I have to keep reminding myself of the sovereignty of God.

Above all, to keep my eyes on Jesus and stop wavering.

“Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’” Isaiah 41:10
